Vision

My vision for this project was to create a cohesive series of marketing materials balancing the maximalism of the theme with readability and student engagement. Using the concept of fantasy gaming, I guided materials to represent the fantastical adventure that is choosing your path through college.

Process

I researched successful cover art for popular games and fantasy media. To encourage an atmospheric, immersive experience I created an original illustration of UMBC's campus in the style of a fantasy map (see Quarter Cards and Breezeway above). Combining these illustrations with my typographic choices, unique logo, iconography, and color palette created a cohesive, engaging aesthetic.

Signage for the day of the event was more immersive, taking the audience inside of campus through the visuals on the signage. This effect was created by using a second original illustration from the perspective of standing inside of campus, along with other indoors fantasy imagery. Aesthetics and iconography of the event were split into sections for each academic college's signage to create the illusion of "realms" within the event (see Table Signage left)

Vision

My vision for this campaign was to create a series of cohesive signage deliverables which felt cohesive yet modern and grounded. The cut-and-paste style interspersed with half tones and flat graphics gives a grassroots mobilization feel to the signage, making it relatable and personal for a collegiate audience. The graphics focus on community mobilization and hands-on activism to encourage students to vote.

Process

This project needed to be accessible and eye-catching in a fast-paced, collegiate environment. Therefore, the primary focus of these graphics was bold juxtaposition of elements, and incorporation of current pop culture aesthetics. The color palette incorporates shades from both the Maryland flag and UMBC color palette, subverting the typical expectation of red white and blue election designs. The typography was chosen for its boldness and contrast. The majority of the print signage deliverables focus on hierarchy of information and presenting the voting process and resources as something approachable and relevant to students.

The color palette is bold and unique, yet the tones were specifically chosen to be easy on viewers, and create a calm, approachable effect. The cut-and-paste graphics add a fun, grassroots activist aesthetic to the information, appealing to a younger political generation.
